Meet Opal!!
Opal is an outgoing little girl whose favorite thing is her puzzle treat toys! She is a good mix of snuggles and play. We have noticed some resource guarding, and we are working with her on it- but adopters would need to continue to prevent issues. She had shown NO resource guarding with humans, only with her littermates. Meeting her, she will seem very passive and shy at first, but she is a strong willed little girl who won’t take sass from other puppies. An owner with previous pet experience I think would suit her best, but a first time owner willing to put in time to really train her will be good as well! She already knows most basic tricks(sit, shake, lay down, turn/spin, kennel command and is learning more every day), she responds to her name, she is mostly potty trained, and kennel trained!
Opal and her littermates were in a shelter and going to be euthanized due to space. Our Louisiana Intake Coordinator asked if she could intervene and we said of course!
They did not have an easy start. Covered in fleas, underweight, and fighting ringworm and parasites. But with Sarah’s love and care they have made a remarkable recovery!!
Here is what Sarah says-
“I first want to say that I have fostered many dogs, puppies and litters of puppies in my years in rescue, and this litter overall has the BEST scores in demeanor! They are overall very calm and nonmischievous (for a puppy that is, they are still puppies after all). They are also one of the most, if not the most, trainable litter I have had! Anyone who gets to adopt any one of these puppies is VERY lucky and will have a wonderful companion! They each have groundwork training that they pick up easily, so their next step to being the perfect pup is learning to fit into your lifestyle and they are ready! Each one of the puppies in this litter I can picture in a low energy, low key household, or a highly active, fast paced one! And that is a very rare thing to find in puppies! I didn’t know it when I named them, but these puppies truly are Gems!”
